Good morning everyone,

I imagine if you’re getting your A Level results today, you’ll be scrolling through social media all day seeing what your friends got in their A Levels, BTECs etc.

Some will get their results already. Some will have emails from the uni they’ve been accepted to. Some of you will be sat there wondering what more you could’ve done while others will know that they gave up on themselves before they even started trying.

It’s a scary old day. It feels like the real start of something new. University? An apprenticeship? A job? A gap year or a year of just really not having a clue what to do? You’re not alone.

Today is one of those days that feels like the first day of the rest of your lives, but believe me – everyday is the first day of the rest of your lives (think about it, it’s a bit of a stupid phrase really).

Whatever happens today – I’d suggest you take a moment to reflect. Look how far you’ve come – I bet you’re a hell of a lot closer to where you wanted to be than you were two years ago. You’ve grown, become an actual legal adult and you probably now knows how it feels to either:

Work hard and get the results
Work hard and not get the results
    Miss out slightly
Miss out by quite a bit
    Be elated
    Be scared
    Be elated and scared
    Be disappointed
    Be proud
    Be lost
  • All of those things are valid. Use those thoughts, feelings to reflect and choose your next step carefully. Don’t rush through to the first uni that gives you an offer – really think about that next step.
  • The student room has lots of volunteers on hand today to offer advice to those of you who perhaps didn’t get the results you wanted. Use them, use whatever support you have and remember you’ve not failed – you’ve just got one more hurdle yet.
  • Good luck to all of you today from everyone here at Stop The World!
  • You’ve got this – whatever your results say x
