This post is inspired and dedicated to Chester Bennington, the lead singer of Linkin Park, who tragically took his life today.
Every time something like this happens, I always feel my stomach drop and throat tingle. Suicide is an incredibly devastating thing for everyone involved, from the person who sadly couldn’t see another option other than ending their life, to those around them who wonder what they could’ve done differently.
I am not a huge Linkin Park fan. I am, like anyone at 1 am in a bar, happy to sing along to Numb. I will always welcome ‘In the End’ to any party playlist, and I will always smile at the happy memories of looking around at a house party when I was 16 when everyone sings their heart out to Numb/ Encore, Smirnoff ice in hand.
I think the thing that gets to me most is whatever you do, you cannot save everyone. That is a very sad reality and unfortunately, in this day and age, we make it very hard for men in particular to speak out about their feelings.
Speak up, speak out and please remember you’re not alone.
I’m going to leave you on this sad and sombre night with a song from Linkin Park’s album, Minutes to Midnight with a link to a song that is so beautiful and prominent as the sun sets tonight.
Rest in peace Chester. I hope you’ve finally found some peace.
Positive of the day: I saw my favourite dog in the world tonight after 4 weeks without him!
